Eighteen-year-old Gio Scelzi challenged for a podium finish during the ENEOS 125 at Irwindale Speedway, driving the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS / Curb Records Toyota Camry.
Scelzi of Fresno, Calif., qualified the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS / Curb Records Toyota Camry third on the ARCA Mendards Series West grid for the ENEOS 125 presented by NAPA AUTO PARTS at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday.
He then battled for a top-three finish until a late-race restart, when contact with ten laps to go derailed his effort and relegated the rookie driver to a 14th-place finish.
Bill McAnally Racing hosted VIP team owners suites which offered room for social distancing and pre-entrance medical screening. It was made available to NAPA AUTO PARTS, Toyota, ENEOS, and others allowed partners.
Scelzi – the dirt sprint car standout – is sixth in the championship standings. He will return to action with the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown at Iowa Speedway on July 18.
